CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES
examination:
- Misinterpretation of questions
- Lack of Arabic Language background
- Inadequate preparation and responses
- Irrelevant answers to the questions
Some candidates found the questions difficult to interpret. The expected responses from the candidates were not met. They therefore gave inadequate and inappropriate points which did not earn them good marks.
Lack of Arabic Language background was one of the weaknesses displayed by some of the candidates, particularly in the area ofQur’ān and Hadith. However the use of transliteration has aided majority of the candidates.
Candidates’ weaknesses revolved on their adequate preparations or its lack. Lack of adequate preparation and inability to read extensively which considerably limited their expression of ideas, and eventually prevented them from scoring good marks.
Few candidates could not give the relevant points needed. Despite the clarity and simplicity of the questions, they were giving irrelevant and inappropriate points which did not earn them good marks.
SUGGESTED REMEDIES
To address the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended the following:
- adequate preparations for the exams
- thorough reading of questions before they are answered
- mastery of Arabic Language
- conscious efforts by candidates to train for legible handwriting
- strict adherence to instructions.
- employment of qualified teachers to handle the subject
- provision of relevant recommended text books in schools and home
