Most of the students performed poorly in their responses to questions on poetry. They lacked the literary skills of “sifting and knitting” of facts. Candidates responses to questions in many instances begged the questions and were irrelevant, which shows that they have not studied the texts.
Suggested Remedies
Reading culture should be encouraged at every stage in school.
Students should be discouraged from using the abridged texts as replacements of original study texts.
Teachers should attend workshops and training programmes on teaching of Literature and qualified teachers should be employed to teach Literature-in-English.
