Eppie is the product of the secret marriage between Godfrey Cass and
Molly Farren. The baby Eppie survives death miraculously when her
mother dies in the snow and she crawls to an open cottage that belongs to
Silas Manner. The child sets in motion the process of Silas' regeneration.
Silas goes to church for the first time and thereafter attend church
regularly. Silas became a family friend of Dolly Wintrop family. He finds
joy in parenthood and companionship which restores his love for man and
God. Eppie's presence in the novel advances the plot and makes it
interesting. Eppie displays maturity and wisdom when Godfrey wants to
claim her as his biological child. She chooses Silas as her father and
remains with him. Even after her marriage to Aaron Winthrop they both
enjoy Silas' company for a while and this makes Silas very happy. Some candidates narrated the storyline and failed to treat Eppies's role.
This made them scored poor marks.
