Question 3(a) (i) was not correctly responded to. The candidates explained design instead of design brief. Other parts of the question were well attempted by the candidates. The required responses are as given below.

A short statement that describes what the designer intends to do.

• Stating two reasons for writing specification

-   It is to serve as a guide.
-   It is to list the requirements of the design.
-   It is to help to evaluate the artifact

(b)        State three operations that can be carried out on the shaping machine

• Horizontal shaping
• Vertical shaping
• Groove  cutting
• Keyway  cutting
• Angular shaping            

(c)        Stating the difference between speed and feed in turning operation
Feed is the depth the drill penetrates into the work per revolution while speed is the circumferential distance the cutting edge of a tool moves per unit time.
