(c)State two workshop tests used to check the hardness of cast iron.
(d) State one function of each of the following used in welding:
(i) hand shield;
(ii) chipping hammer.

Candidates’ performance was satisfactory. However, questions 1(c) was not adequately answered.

(a) Stating the reason why chiseling is directed away from other workers:
- chipping is always done in a direction which will prevent flying of chips
from striking other workers.

- to prevent other workers from being injured by flying chips
(c) Stating two workshop tests used to check the hardness of cast iron:
- Dropping test
- Grinding test
- Filling test
(d) (i) Stating one function of hand shield used in welding:
- To protect the face of a worker from hot sparks
- To protect the eyes of a worker from intense rays
(ii) Stating one function of chipping hammer used in welding:
- To remove excess flux/slag
- To clean the bead of welded joint
- For breaking scales formed after welding
