With reference to Anton Dvorak’s Largo from symphony in E minor “from the new world”

  1. What is the meaning of the term largo?
  2. Quote the first two bars (right hand only)
  3. Explain the following terms and signs as used:

(iii) cresc.;
(iv) ff.

    • Quote the predominant rhythm in the left hand.

Candidates were expected to study the set-piece and respond accordingly to the questions. However, most of the candidates performed average in this question. Candidates should have responded to the question in the following ways:

However, most of the candidates performed poorly in this question and the major cause of the poor performance was non-availability of the prescribed set-pieces. Candidates should have responded to the question in the following ways:
