Question 6
Modulations
Observation
Candidates were expected to identify four changes of key in passages beginning with key of B flat major and modulate to either the dominant, subdominant and relative minor. They were expected to write the letter name of the new key and its relationship with the original key. Candidates’ performed poorly in the question; this is due to weak aural perception of candidates which hampered them from tackling this question appropriately thereby losing good marks. They were expected to state the following in their responses:
- Dominant - F major
- Subdominant - E flat major
- Relative minor - G minor
- Relative minor - G minor
