This question was attempted by  many candidates and the  candidates’  performance was fair. 
                In part (a) some candidates could  not state qualities of a first aider, candidates wrote first aider are careful,  dress very well.  In part (b) some  candidates could not state ways by which bleeding could be controlled,  candidates wrote blood clothing and put cold compress.
                The expected  answers were as follows:
                  1(a)      Qualities of first aider
                
                  - adequate knowledge of first aid;
 
                  - able to control his emotions/instill confidence;
 
                  - have sympathy/and understanding/passion;
 
                  - be able to act quickly/agile/smart;
 
                  - willingness to offer services in case of emergency;
 
                  - respect for rules/regulations/practice related to  safety;
 
                  - possess initiative and able to assess situation/take  decision
 
                  - be resourceful/creative;
 
                  - a good observer.

                    (b)      Ways of Controlling bleeding
                
                  - raising the injured body part;
 
                  - applying direct pressure/explained;
 
                  - applying bandage at site of injury;
 
                  - use of pressure points located in different parts of  the body;
 
                  - use of tourniquet (as a last resort).
