(a)  State, in sequential order, the four operational steps involved in binding a saddle-stitched pamphlet.

(b)  State two differences between perfect binding and edition binding.

(c)  Name three materials used in print finishing operation.

Observation

Candidates made good attempt at this questions and their performance was okay.  Although some of the candidates could not state correctly in sequential order, the four operational steps involved in binding a saddle-stitched pamphlet.

(B)       Differences between perfect binding and edition binding

-           Perfect binding is done with glue (adhesive) while edition is done by sewing.
-           In perfect binding, the cover and the text are trim-flushed while in edition, the case is made separately from the text
-           The leaves in perfect binding are prone to loosening while the edition case are durable.
-           Limp covers are usually used for perfect binding
-           Hard cover (boards) usually used for Edition case binding
-           Perfect binding is usually used for low priced edition of jobs
-           Edition case is usually used for high priced edition of jobs
