CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES
Some of the weaknesses observed in the candidates’ scripts were:
- Insufficient knowledge of the subject matter as the candidates could not satisfactorily attempt questions on store, objectives of store management and the functions of a store manager.
- Poorly use of English grammar as most candidates could not explain their points clearly and correctly as observed in explanation of risk management, transfer of risk in insurance and of definition of store terms in question three (3) and five (5) respectively.
- Majority of the candidates avoided question seven (7) which was on stock valuation using LIFO method. Those who attempted it performed poorly.
SUGGESTED REMEDIES
(i) The candidates should learn the proper use of English grammar to enable them express their points clearly and correctly.
(ii) Candidates should study standard texts in preparing for the examination rather than answering questions with residual knowledge.
(iii) Government should endeavour to recruit more and train qualified teachers for this subject.
(iv) Teachers should thoroughly teach the candidates all aspects of the syllabus with more emphasis on the practical aspects in stock valuation.
