(1) The figure above shows the front and end views of a hopper. Draw the:
(i)given views;
(ii)plan;
(iii)development of the hopper with XX as seam.
Observation
This question requires candidates to draw the plan and surface development of a hopper whose front and end elevations were given.
Most candidates who attempted this question could not solve it completely.
Candidates were able to copy the given views and draw the plan. However, they were unable to find the true length and most of the candidate could not develop the article.
Candidates were expected to do the following:
(A) Draw the given view:
- draw the front elevation;
- project from front elevation to end elevation;
- draw the end elevation.
(B) Draw the plan:
- project from front and end elevation;
- draw the plan.
(C) Develop the Hopper:
- find the true lengths of bg, cf;
- find the true lengths of cg, bf;
- find the true lengths of bh, ce;
- find the true lengths of ag, df;
- use the true lengths to draw the development;
- complete the development.
(D)Draw neatly.
