The candidates’ weaknesses were as follow:
- Poor mastery of the keyboard;
- Failure to follow instruction;
- Typographical errors;
- Overtyping;
- Poor correction of errors;
- Inconsistent line spacing;
- Inconsistent punctuation;
- Wrong alignment of figures and margin;
- Inconsistent style of display.
(b) Suggested Remedies
The following remedies were suggested towards improving performance of candidates in subsequent examinations:
- Adequate and serviceable typewriters should be provided in schools;
- Sufficient practice with the keyboard before the examination;
- Qualified teachers should be employed in the teaching of the subject in order to emphasize the theoretical aspects of the syllabus;
- The importance of rubric instruction should be emphasized;
- More time should be allotted to Typewriting drilling;
- The method of correction of errors should be taught in schools.
