The following competencies were noticeable in some candidates’ artwork:
(1) Knowledge of the techniques of shading
Few candidates demonstrated a remarkable understanding of the techniques of shading. These class of candidates were able to use shading (in graded tones) to depict forms’ solidity, indicate the source of light, show contrast between the objects and between the objects and the background.
(2) Accurate and proportional representation of objects
Some candidates were able to render their objects and figure accurately and proportionally. The quality of the lines and drawing of this class of candidates were high as they demonstrated deep dexterity that could only have resulted from constant practice of drawing and observation.
