Section B (PAINTING)
In questions 4 - 6, Candidates were expected to create imaginative compositions, by applying the elements of art according to the guiding principles. They were also expected to consider perspective, appropriateness of context, as well as harmonious colour combination. The skill of proportional and quality drawings is fundamental in imaginative composition.

Question 4

Make a painting on the topic:
Students in the dining hall.

observation

This question was not quite popular among the candidates, probably because of its requirements. Many of the works lacked unity, and there was no emphasis on the centre of interest. The representation of students in the dining hall lacked perspective, effective figure drawing, and appropriate graded tones. All this made most of the works to look flat lacking the illusion of three-dimensionality. All this led to loss of a substantial part of the obtainable marks.
