(A) (I) A suitable adhesive for bonding a plastic laminate
- contact glue/cement/adhesive
OR
- impact/cement/adhesive.
(II) Procedure for bonding a plastic laminate to a box top
- cut plastic laminate to size;
- clean both surfaces;
- scratch both surfaces;
- apply glue to both surfaces;
- allow the glue to dry;
- put stickers or paper on the box surface;
- lay the two surfaces in position;
- remove the stickers or paper in the middle;
- press the two surfaces together from middle to outside;
- dress the sides of the work.
(B) Advantages of plastics over solid wood
Plastics:
- are more resistant to water;
- are more resistant to heat;
- are available in greater variety of colours;
- are better electrical insulators;
- are easier to clean;
- are more resistant to abrasive wear;
- are more resistant to stains;
- are more resistant to weather;
- are more stable;
- do not require additional finishing.
