(a) Select one of the sketches in question 1 and to a scale of 1:5, draw in the Third Angle Orthographic projection, the following views:
Few candidates were able to show the seat, underframe side rail, legs (2 no) underframe stretcher and underframe end top and bottom rails in hidden details (2 no).
Candidates were expected to indicate the following on their drawings:
- method of fixing seat to underframe;
- indication of joints;
- at least four major dimension;
- good line quality.
(b) Sectional end elevation:
Few candidates were able to show the:
- cutting plane on the front elevation;
- position in Third Angle in relation to the front elevation;
- projections from front elevation;
- padding in section.
Candidates were expected to also indicate the following on their drawings:
- method of fixing seat in section or in elevation;
- legs in elevation (2 no);
- stretcher in section;
- bottom end rail in elevation;
- good line quality.
(c) Plan with half padded seat removed.
Few candidates did very well in this question.
However, they failed to show the:
- method of fixing seat to underframe in elevation;
- half stretcher in elevation;
- at least two joints.
Candidates were also expected to show the:
- position in Third Angle in relation to front elevation;
- projections from front elevation;
- half padded seat in elevation;
- top end rail in elevation;
- legs in section (2 no);
- good line quality.
