(a) Find the quadratic equation whose roots are (3 + 2 √3) and (3 – 2√3).

This question was well attempted by majority of the candidates and they performed creditably well. The (a) part of the question could be answered in two ways:

(1) By multiplying them out i.e *x* – 3 – 2√3 *x* – 3 + 2√3 = 0 or

(2)
Using the *x*`2` – (sum of roots)*x* + products of roots method to get

*x*`2` – 6*x* – 3 = 0
