(b)   Highlight four consequences of company Rule on Nigeria.

Very unpopular among the candidates and the performance was also very poor.  The British consuls were:  John Beecroft, Burton, Hopkins, Hewett, Johnson, etc.

In the part (b), the candidates were expected to highlight the following points:

• it laid the foundation for the British acquisition of Nigeria;
• its activities led to loss of sovereignty of some Nigerian Nation states eg Benin;
• it carried it out effectively the administrative function granted it by the charter that established it;
• its operation of trade monopoly considerably ruined the economic life of Nigerians;
• it laid the foundation of the modern police force by setting up the Niger Constabulary, etc.
