Observation

Most candidates emphasized the utilization of resources to meet family needs and left out decision making in the definition of Home Management.
The candidates gave the steps in decision making, Home Management or Home Economics Subject areas as components of Home Management.

Home Management is a process of decision making and careful utilization of family resources to meet family needs and achieve goals.

       Components of home management

  1. Goals - goals are things that family or individual strive to accomplish/achieve. There are long term, short term and intermediate goals.
  2. Values - Values are measures of worth placed on something.
    Values represent one'feelings or view of what is good, important or desirable. There are intrinsic and extrinsic values.
  3. Standard - Standards are measures of quality, quantity and method of goal attainment.
  4. Standard influence actions because of satisfaction derived from it. There are flexible, fixed and content standards.
  5. Needs - Needs are the gap between where we are and where we Want to be. Needs are things we cannot do without. The types are social, physiological, safety, esteem and self-actualization.
  6. Wants - These are things we like, cherish, or wish to have. They are things we can do without e.g. swimming pool.
  7. Like and dislikes - Likes are things we prefer. Dislike are those things we do not wish to have. They are factors affecting meal management, choice of amenities.
