(a)        Explain the difference between carpet and rugs
(b)        State three uses of each of the following:
(i)         Curtain
(ii)        Carpets and rugs

Observation

(a) Almost all the candidates mistook linoleum for carpets and they answered in that vein. Many wrote on the cost or price and where they are imported from and the type of people who use them.
(b) Their uses were muddled up e.g. that curtains add warmth and comfort to the feet instead of carpets. Most of them talked about beatification leaving out warmth and reduction of noise etc.

(a) Difference between carpet and rugs

A carpet covers the entire floor of the room and may be fixed while a rug is smaller than a caroet and is removable.

(b) Use of the following:

1. Curtains: They

  • protect the room from dust
  • provide privacy
  • shade the room from excessive light beautify the room
  • are used as screen for bed in a one-room apartment
  • can be used to screen book-shelf or as shower curtain in the bathroom
  • provide warmth to the room

2. Carpets and rugs: They

  • help to unify the room arrangement
  • add warmth and comfort to the feet
  • reduce noise
  • add beauty to the room
  • help in setting the mood for the whole room
  • help to harmonize colours of the room
