Observation

Factors that influence the choice of a house was well attempted.
Under points to consider when selecting furniture, some candidates were after the money available.  It was assumed that the buyer already has the money.

The required answers to the questions are:

(a) Factors that influence the choice of a house

(a) (i) location – nearness to school, hospital, market, places of
worship etc.
(ii)        The type of house – Bungalow, storey building, detached
etc.
(iii)       The size of the house in relation to the size of the family.
(iv)       Ventilation and lighting methods in the house.
(v)        The design or layout of the house and compound/quality workmanship.
(vi)       Availability of utilities in the house – water, electricity etc.
(vii)      The number of rooms in relation to the sexes and ages of 
family members.

  1. Neighbourhood/site-situation of the soil, responsible and friendly neighbours and clean neighbourhood.
  2. Economic status – People in the low-income group may not be able to afford duplexes etc.
  3. Sanitation and drainage in the area.

(b)       Points to consider when selecting furniture for the sitting room

The furniture should

  1. be durable/of high quality
  2. blend with the other items in the room.
  3. serve its purpose
  4. be repaired easily when necessary.
  5. be easily cleaned and maintained.
  6. fit well in the arrangement of the room
  7. be comfortable.
  8. be well finished
  9. fit the space available/size of the sitting room
  10. suit the ages of family members.
