This question was popular among the candidates but many of them failed to answer (a) rhythm and (d) symmetry well.
Some of the important points required include:
(a) Rhythm - Step by step repetition of elements that provide order and a sense of continuity e.g: rippling waves, the teeth of a saw, the wavy character of a graph. A continuance, a flow, or a sense of movement achieved by repetition of regulated visual units. Examples of rhythm are: lines, colours and motifs.
(b) Balance - a sense of equilibrium achieved through implied weight, attention or attraction by manipulating the visual elements within an art work. There are three types of balance viz: symmetrical asymmetrical and radial.
c) Harmony - pleasing arrangement and combination of Art elements.
Example: A child in his mother's embrace; juxtaposing red to green; The quality of relating the visual elements of a composition.
(d) Symmetry - An equal distribution of elements on either side of an imaginary axis in a design. A mirror like repetition on either side of an imaginary straight line central axis of appearance. A kind of equilibrium in which one half of an object has exactly similar parts of the other Example: the structure of a human being. |
