Candidates were required to

  1. (i) Identify principles of design in Fig. 1

(ii) Identify the element of design on the upper part of the bodice.
(iii) State effects of the elements identified in 6(a)(ii) on a figure with a small bust.

  1. (i) Draw a skirt with knife pleats.

(ii) Label parts of the skirt drawn in 6(b) (i).
(iii) Suggest type of openings with corresponding fastenings suitable for the skirt in 6(b)(i)

 

OBSERVATION:

In questions a(i) and (ii)m candidates performed excellently in them and scored high marks. In question a(iii), candidates could not state the effects of the element on a figure with a small bust. The expected answers are:


Horizontal line: gives an illusion of increase in width.
Vertical line: gives an illusion of increase in height.
Curved line: gives a soft effect.
In questions b, candidates could not answer correctly and scored low marks. The expected drawing of a skirt with knife pleats is:

 

 

The expected parts of the knife pleated skirt are: waist band, waistline, side seams, knife pleats, hemline, hipline. The expected answer for the type of opening with corresponding fastenings suitable for the skirt include:
Zipper opening: zip fastener.
Wrap opening: buttons/button holes, press studs.
Continuous wrap opening: buttons/button holes.

Placket: press studs.
