(a) List two characteristics of an ideal operational amplifier.
(b) Draw and label a circuit diagram to show how an ideal amplifier can
be used as a/an
(i) inverting amplifier;
(ii) non-inverting amplifier.

OBSERVATION

The expected answers were:
(a) (i) Infinite loop-gain
(ii)High input impedance
(iii) infinite bandwidth
(iv)low output impedance
(b) (i)
        

A pure' recall-type' question on operational amplifiers. For the ideal device, the characteristics include infinite input impedance, gain, and bandwidth and zero output impedance. When connected in the 'non-inverting mode', the op- AMP'S positive and negative terminals are connected respectively to input and earth; or vice versa for the 'inverting mode' connection. The question was on Amplifiers. The question was unpopular. The candidates did poorly in it.
