Observation

This was a compulsory question that should be attempted by all candidates.
The performance of the candidates who attempted the question was fair.
Some of the candidates could not print the letters required on an example of
a spur, pass, knoll and ridge.  Many of them got spur and ridge correctly but found it difficult to identify knoll and a pass.  Frequent practice on the use of contour maps will improve their performance.

Many of the candidates answered the (b) and (c) parts of the question well, but a few could not identify the human features in the north-western part of the map.  The features include:

  • roads;
  • settlements;
  • school;
  • rest house;
  • bench marks;
  • recreational part/race track.
