    (b)State two characteristics of the water obtained from the source in the diagram labelled B [2 marks]

    (c)State three methods of purifying the water obtained from the source in the diagram labeled A.          [3 marks]

    (d)Mention two diseases that could affect humans that drink contaminated water from the source in the diagram labelled A.

     

Observation

 

Majority of candidates attempted this question and they did well in it. However, some candidates
could not state characteristics of water obtained from the source in the diagram labelled B.

 

The expected answers are:

(a) (i) Sources of water labelled A and B
A – Rainwater/Rain
B – Borehole water/Borehole/deep well water/underground water                 

                   (ii) Sources of water that is more hygienic
                B/Borehole water/deep well water/ underground water                             

(b)  Characteristics of the water in diagram B

  • It is not easily contaminated/ clean/ pure/ hygienic
  • It is potable/ safe for drinking
  • It does not easily lather with soap/waste soap                                            

     
(c)   Methods of purification of the water in diagram A

  • Boiling
  • Sedimentation
  • Filtration
  • Use of alum/named
  • Distillation
  • Chlorination
