Outline any five problems faced by Nigerian farmers in the 1960s.

Observation

This was another popular question and majority of the candidates who attempted it did justice to it. This was probably because the same problems still exist to date. Apart from a few candidates who gave skimpy answers, many were able to outline the following problems:
(i) inadequate modern farming implements such as seeders, ploughs, tractors etc and as a result, farmers depended largely on their traditional hoes and ploughs;
(ii)farms were often destroyed by wild animals and pests like monkeys, bush pigs, locusts, birds;
(iii)diseases of crops;
(iv)farmers invariably consumed their seeds before the planting season;
(v)Inadequate transportation facilities;
(vi)unpredictable climatic conditions.
