Question 6

Modulations

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Observation

Candidates were expected to identify three changes of key in passages beginning with the key of D major and modulate to either the dominant, subdominant and relative minor. They were expected to write the letter name of the new key and its relationship with the original key. Candidates’ weak aural perception hampered them from tackling this question appropriately thereby losing most of the obtainable marks. They were expected to state the following in their responses:

(a)        Dominant Key - A major

(b)        Subdominant Key - G major

(c)        Relative minor Key - B minor
