Weakness and Remedies
Candidates were unable to:
- write the botanical names of Centrosema and Guinea grass;
- state the effects of excessive consumption of common salt by poultry;
- mention the benefits that could be derived from feeding livestock with common salt;
- mention the sources of water in animal production;
- mention the activities which could be carried out using the rope;
- state the effects of improper storage of groundnut cake in animal production.;
- spell technical terms correctly and displayed poor vocabulary.
Consequent on the weaknesses observed from the candidates’ scripts, the Chief Examiners recommended as follows:
(i) Only competent graduates of Animal Science/Production should be saddled with the
responsibility of teaching the subject in Senior Secondary Schools
(ii) Animal Husbandry should be taught as a practical oriented subject through laboratory
activities, field trips, excursions, etc
(iii) Adequate facilities and textbooks on Animal Husbandry should be made available to
enhance the teaching-learning of Animal Husbandry in Senior Secondary Schools.
(iv) Teachers should make drawing of agricultural specimens a part of candidates’
assignments
(v) Teachers should ensure adequate coverage of the syllabus
