Weakness and Remedies
Majority of the candidates were unable to:
- explain organic agriculture;
- give reasons why farmers should practise organic agriculture;
- classify crops based on morphology;
- explain staking, hardening off, earthing up and supplying;
- perform calculations on area of farmland;
- outline the features of battery cage system;
- explain the effects of temperature, light and relative humidity on egg production;
- calculate the total and annual depreciation of grain dryer;
- give reasons why farmers should control weaver birds in a rice field;
- write legibly;
- spell agricultural terms correctly.
Based on the observed weaknesses, the Chief Examiners recommended as follows:
- Adequate coverage of the syllabus.
- Improved reading culture among candidates is advocated.
- Candidates should be exposed to questions on calculations in agricultural science.
- The acquisition of practical skills in the subject through field visits, excursions.
- Exposure of candidates to technical terms used in agriculture.
- Candidates should write legibly and concisely.
