(b) (i) The Operation of a Gear Type Oil Pump
It consists of two spur gears, one of which is driven by the camshaft which rotates inside a close fitting. Oil passes around the casing which is trapped in little quantity by each tooth and carried around the case before being discharged into the gallery.

Oil gallery serves as the route through which discharged oil passes to some intricate parts of the engine.
