Weakness and Remedies
The candidates were generally weak in:
- sketching a line diagram in relation to setting out of a building;
- sketching the cross-section of a straight-flight stair and labeling the parts;
- differentiating between a partition wall and a party wall;
- explaining the cement mortar and gauged mortar;
- sketching a section through a suspended timber ground floor and labeling floor
boarding and oversite concrete;
- sketching a drain pipe and indicating the spigot and socket.
To overcome these weaknesses:
- students should be given opportunity to visit a construction site at least once in a
month;
- The subject teacher should help the students in the areas of their weaknesses by concentrating more on those topics of their weaknesses during lessons;
- Students should review their past questions and also the teacher should be giving them assignments in the areas they have weaknesses.
