Observation
Most candidates were able to:
- List three safety wears that should be worn on site;
- Sketch a jointer and a wooden hawk.
However, few candidates were unable to state the three preliminary sites operations.
The expected response to question 1 is as given below:

- hand gloves;
- safety belt;
- safety rubber boots/gum boots;
- gas mask;
- nose respirator/muffler;
- helmet;
- goggle/ visor;
- overall/ close-fitting uniform;
- respirator;
- ear pad.
(b) Preliminary site operations prior to setting-out a building:
- site investigation;
- soil investigation;
- site clearance;
- site leveling;
- provision of access road;
- provision of plant, machinery and equipment;
- provision of medical facilities i.e first aid box;
- provision of services/ utilities such as water and electricity;
- site security, i.e erection of fences and stores, hutment, hoarding etc;
- topsoil excavation.
