2.(a) Explain each of the following terms in relation to site work:
(i) site preparation;
(ii) setting out.
(b) State two advantages of 3:4:5 method of setting out.
(c)(i) State two safety rules to be observed during the erection of a scaffold.
(ii) Name one safety wear most needed when erecting a timber scaffold.
Observation
Most candidates were able to answered question 2 correctly except the aspect of question 2b which were not well answered.
The expected response to question 2 (b) is as given bellow:
(b) Advantages of 3:4:5 method of setting out
- It gives accurate right angle to the building.
- It is a versatile method.
- It is simple to carry out.
- Shorter distances are measured to avoid sagging as compared to diagonal method.
- The processes involved consume less time.
