Question 1
SPECIFICATIONS
FOUNDATION: 675 x 225 concrete strip laid at a depth of 675
from ground level.
FLOOR: Earth filling.
Hardcore 300.
Concrete slab 150.
Mortar screed 25.
WALLS: All walls are 150 sandcrete hollow blocks with 12 mortar
rendering on both sides.
BEAMS/LINTELS 150 x 225 reinforced concrete.
AND COLUMNS: 150 x 150 reinforced concrete.

Hardwood timber frame;
D2 – 900 x 2100two paneled wooden door with 150 x 150
Hardwood timber frame;
.
D3 – 750 x 2100 wooden flush door with 150 x 150
Hardwood timber frame;
.
WINDOWS: All windows are glazed aluminum casement type.
W1 – 1800 x 1200 (2-bays).
W2 – 900 x 600 (1-bays).
THRESHOLD STEPS: Width – 6000.
Tread – 300
Rise –150.
RAMP: 1800 x 1800
ROOF: Double pitched timber roof with corrugated long span aluminium roofing sheets.
Eaves projection – 600;
Pitch: - 150
Height from ground floor to ceiling - 3000
Observation
To a scale of 1:50, draw the detailed section M – M of the building from the foundation tothe
roof.
Majority of candidates did well by
- graphicallyrepresenting and identifying the timber roof members correctly;
- showing the roof pitched to the specified degree of slope on drawing.
However, it was observed that some of them:
- draw deep strip, wide strip and pad foundations instead of ordinary strip foundations specified;
- could not show the ground floor elements (earth fill, hardcore fill, concrete floor slab, floor finish) correctly;
- failed to hatch the walls in section;
- showed other door types instead of panelled wooden door specified.
