Candidate's Weakness and Remedies

The following short-comings were observed pertinent to the candidate’s drawings:

• inability to dimension drawings;
• non-adherence to building drawing specifications;
• inability to read and interpret building drawings.

SUGGETED REMEDIES FOR OVERCOMMING THESE WEAKNESSES:

• inability to dimension drawings; this problem can be overcome by enforcingstudents possession of the prescribed textbooks right from the point of entry into the drawing course. The students should be well grounded in the rudiments of technical drawing which includes; dimensioning techniques and applications. The students should be given ample relevant assignments to sharpen their dimensioning skills. They should be exposed to real working drawings produced by the architects and civil engineers. Also they should be made to have sufficient assignment and projects.

• non-adhere to building drawing specifications: the subject teacher should enforce compliance with given instructions in all drawing assignments and projects. The students need to be sensitized to both legal and financial implications of non-adherence to drawing specifications.
• inability to read and interprete working drawings; this problem can be tackled right from the early stage of building construction drawing course, if the students are well exposed to real working drawings prepared by Architects and Civil Engineers. The student can be helped to overcome the shortcomings by making them to have ample practice sessions on the reading and interpretation of building drawings. They need to be well grounded in the basic knowledge of technical drawing, architectural drawing and draughtmanship.
