The weaknesses manifested were:
- Inadequate knowledge of Biblical themes
Candidates showed inadequate knowledge of various biblical themes in the syllabus. Instances abound where they mistake an Old Testament figure for another in the new testament because they bear the same name.
- Sermonizing (Preaching)
Many candidates resort to preaching and beating about the bush when they don’t know what to write about a particular question.
- Lack of knowledge of the subject matter
There was evidence that most of the candidates are not use to the examination syllabus, they assume that the subject is cheap and they could pass without any serious studying.
- Poor grammatical expression
Candidate’s could not present their answers in clear and simple English Language even in situation where they appeared to have understood the demands of the question.
- Bad and rough handwriting
Some candidate’s bad and illegible handwriting affected their scores even in situation where they seems to have written something tangible.
SUGGESTED REMEDIES
(i) Candidates should avoid unnecessary preamble and preaching and dwell
more on statements of facts from the prescribed text.
(ii) They should compliment the study of the Bible with their teachers
notes and not write their own personal ideals.
(iii) They should get familiar with contextual passages and strive to cover all
the topics in the syllabus in order to have adequate knowledge of the subject.
(iv) Candidates are to use the library to read novels in order to improve their grammatical expression and to improve their writing skills.
(v) Teachers should drill their candidates on how to attempt questions by giving them assignments in essay writing.
(vi) They should make their writing legible, and they should explain their points well and clearly for many of them have rough and bad handwritings.
