Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies
Candidates weaknesses were noticed in the following areas:
- inability to correctly define concepts;
- inability to correctly write IUPAC name of compounds;
- inability to list two forces of attraction that exist between covalent molecules;
- inability to write the electron configuration of 26Fe3+;
- inability to describe the chemical tests for CO2, H2 and O2;
- inability to state the composition of water gas;
- inability to describe a simple experiment to determine the type of hardness in a sample of water;
- poor communication skills.
- should prepare adequately for the examinations;
- should learn and use appropriate technical terms when necessary;
- should be familiar with the examinations syllabus;
- should understand the requirements of questions before responding to them
- should be able to differentiate among phenomenon, process and agent in chemical reactions;
- should improve on their communication skills.
