Observation

Candidates’ responses to this question were remarkable, though some candidates were not able to state the end product of using both needle and thread. They were expected to respond to the question thus:
(a) -           It is the use of needle/machine and thread to join/pull two parts of fabric
                      together to form/create patterns/designs.

(b)  Stitching/Sewing, Folding, Pleating, Marbling/Squeezing/Crumpling, Knotting/Tied circle, Clamping, Splashing, Spraying, Twisting, Clump tying, Bunching, Concentric squares, Concentric circles, Bolting/ Sandwiching.

(c)        (i)         Stitching/Sewing:   
It is the use of needle/machine and thread to join/pull two parts of fabric together to form/create patterns/design.

(ii)        Folding:    
This is a method of pleating/bending fabrics in stripes and tied tightly with rope, raffia, string, etc at intervals to create/form patterns/design.

(iii)       Pleating:     
It is a method of folding fabrics over the other in a long narrow shape to form stripes.

Marbling/Squeezing/Crumpling:     

This method is purely textural in effect.  It involves the loosening and pressing together of fabric without any definite design/patterns.

Knotting/Tied circle:     

It is the use of clamps or pegs to hold/fasten fabrics together to create/form patterns/designs.

Clamping:     

It is the use of clamps or pegs to hold/fasten fabrics together to create/form patterns/designs.

Splashing:     

It is a method that involves the direct scattering/spreading of dye solutions on fabrics to create patterns/designs.

Spraying:      

It is a method where dye solutions are spread all over the fabric to form/ create patterns/designs with the use of materials/tools such as spraying gun, bamboo stick, biro case etc.

Twisting:       

It is a method where fabric is folded into coils and tied at intervals to form patterns/designs.

Clump tying:       

It is a method whereby stones/
marbles, pebbles, bottle tops, grains, etc are tied to fabric and dipped into dye solutions to create various shapes/patterns.

Bunching:        

It is a method that involves holding and tying fabrics together in a ball form to create patterns/designs.

Concentric squares:

It is a method of folding fabrics diagonally, winding and tying tightly at intervals from the middle to create designs/patterns.

Concentric circles:

It is a method of picking up fabrics from the mid-point and tie tightly at several intervals to create patterns/designs.

Bolting/Sandwiching:        

It is a method of folding fabrics into a specific shape and placing it in between two flat woods which are fastened or nailed together before dyeing.
