Observation
 Candidates’ performance was above average in this question. This might be as a result of the popularity of the question with the candidates. However, some candidates failed to arrange sequentially the steps to achieve crackles in a waxed fabric decoration. This made them to lose some marks. They were expected to respond to the question in the following manner:
(a) Plain dyeing is a process of decorating fabrics into a monochromatic/one colour scheme in a dye bath/ solution.
(b) - Folding;
- Marbling/Squeezing/Crumpling;
- Pleating;
- Splashing;
- Twisting/Spiral;
- Knotting/Tied circles;
- Clamping;
- Clump tying;
- Stitching/Sewing;
- Spraying;
- Bunching;
- Concentric squares;
- Concentric circles;
- Bolting/Sandwiching/Criss-crossing.
(c) - Get all materials ready such as fabric, wax, dyes, chemicals, bowls, etc.
- Plan and transfer the design on fabric.
- Melt the wax to normal temperature.
- Apply the melted wax on the fabric.
- Prepare cold dye bath/ solution.
- Squeeze/fold/twist the waxed fabric to achieve crackles.
- Dip the waxed fabric into the cold dye bath/ solution and leave for a while.
- Remove the fabric to oxidize.
- Dewax the dyed fabric.
- Rinse and dry under shade.
- Iron the fabric.
- Package the fabric.
