Question 4

    (a)        Define harmonious colour.
    (b)        Explain the two methods that can be used to achieve monochromatic colours
    (c)        (i)         List three cool colours
    (ii)        List four warm colours.


Observation

Although the question was popular among the candidates, their performance was average. Some of them failed to explain the methods that can be used to achieve monochromatic colours. This made them to lose some marks. They were expected to respond to the question in the following manner:

(a)             They are colours that agree well with one another. They are referred to as family colours because they have a sense of unity in them.  
 
(b) (i)        Tint: It is the addition of a white pigment to any colour to create/produce a lighter hues/tones. The more quantity of white added to any colour, the brighter and lighter the shade of the colour.
(ii)       Shade: It is the addition of a black pigment to any colour to create/produce a dark hue/tone. The more quantity of black added to any colour, the darker the shade of the colour.          

 

(c) (i)        Blue, Purple/Violet, Green, Bluish green, Indigo/Bluish violet, Navy blue.
(ii)        Red, Orange, Yellow, Pink, Reddish orange, Yellowish orange, Reddish violet, Brown.
