Question 2
- (i) Define the term illumination. [2 marks]
(ii) List three factors that would affect the illumination of a room. [3 marks]
(iii) Calculate the illumination falling on a plane 4 m vertically below a point of light source of 128 cd. [3 marks] - (i) State two types of conduit gauge. [2 marks]
(ii) Outline five steps in the procedure for threading metal conduits. [5 marks]
(iii) List four types of saddles used in metal conduit work. [4 marks] - (i) Define the term entrepreneurship. [2 marks]
(ii) State four ways of sourcing for funds to establish an electrical workshop. [4 marks]
Observation
Majority of the candidates that answered this question performed fairly.
In part (a), majority of the candidates could not satisfactorily define the term illumination. Some of them listed three factors that would affect the illumination of a room correctly.
In part (b), majority of the candidates could not outline the steps in the procedure for threading metal conduits.
In part (c), only few of the candidates could correctly define the term entrepreneurship. However, majority of them could state ways of sourcing funds for the establishment of an electrical workshop.
The expected answers include:
-
(i)this is the density of luminous flux falling on a working plane / working area
(ii) FACTORS AFFECTING ILLUMINATION

- taper the end of the conduit with file / reamer
- lubricate the part to be threaded
- press the stock and dies on the conduit and start threading
- reverse the threading half way
- clean the end of the thread after completion(iii) TYPES OF SADDLES
- spacer bar
- distance bar
- multiple saddles
- (girder) clips
- hospital saddle
- crampet -
