Generally the question was fairly answered but the candidates did not use correct words to differentiate cooler, warmer and flask as it was required in ‘c’ part of the question.
The candidates were expected to answer the question as follows:
(a) Occasions when it becomes necessary for meals to be packed
when going to
- work
- school
- long journeys
- picnics
- excursion
- ceremonies/celebrations
- buying from fast foods joints
- for meeting/conference
- visiting people in government custody
- when visiting a patient in the hospital.
(b) Points to Consider When Planning Packed Meals
- The meal must be well balanced
- The meal should be one that packs well
- The meals does not need a lot of crockery and cutlery
- The meal should make a few crumbs
- The meal should not spill easily
- There should be water or other drinks.
(c) Uses of Equipment for Packed Meals
1. Polythene bags/Ziplock - keep food fresh and crisp e.g. biscuits, pasties
2. Vacuum/food flasks - keep food/drink hot or cold
until needed
3. Baskets/food chests - for packing food to keep them
safe for transportation.
4. Food carriers: - used to pack two or more
dishes safe for carriage.
5. Plastic cups, plates etc - for service during meal time
6. Disposable plates and cups - for serving
7. Cutlery - for serving and eating
8. Aluminum foil - for packing.
