Candidates' Weaknesses
The following weaknesses were observed on the candidates’ scripts:
(1)Poor expression
Some of the candidates were unable to express themselves clearly and
therefore had problem with effective communication.
(2)Mere listing of points
Some candidates merely listed the points that were answers to the questions
when explanations were required. This made them lose precious marks.
(3)Poor map work
Many of the candidates drew poor map outlines and did not use keys to
.
SUGGESTED REMEDIES TO CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES
The following points were suggested as remedies to address the weaknesses that were observed on candidates’ scripts:
(1) Good expression
The language of communication, English Language could be learnt through
constant reading of useful English and Literature textbooks. Debating and
dramatic exercises could also help to sharpen their English skills.
(2)Adequate explanation of points
There should be adequate explanation of points for most geography
questions to earn full marks. Mere listing of points in most cases make
candidates to earn half of the marks.
(3)Good map outlines
Perfection comes through practice. Candidates should learn how to draw outline maps of Nigeria showing settlements, areas, vegetation and relief features.
(4) Coverage of the syllabus
The candidates are advised to start reading on time so that they would be able to cover the syllabus before the start of the examination.
