This question was popular among the candidates and they performed very well. However some of the candidates who answered the questions were not able to state how the problems identified could be solved. The expected answers were:
- teaching of modern languages in schools
- improved transport and communication network
- establishing and using a common currency
- diversification of economy
- political stability/good governance
- prompt payment of dues
- implementation of agreed programmes
- reassurance of sovereignty of states
- discouragement of smaller unions
- more commitment to ECOWAS
- improved border patrols
- trade liberalization
- less cumbersome travel documentation procedures
- respect for ideologies of individual states
