(1) Rubuta jawabi mai ma’ana da kyakkyawar Hausa, wanda tsawonsa bai gaza kalmomi ɗari uku (300) ba, a kan ɗaya daga cikin waɗannan:
(a) Da talauci da jahilci, wanne ya fi illa ga rayuwa?
(b) Yadda za a kyautata rayuwar matasa a ƙasar nan.
(c) Ziyara ta a wani babban asibiti.
(d) Rubuta wasiƙa zuwa ga abokin ka, ka bayyana masa irin sana’ar gidan ku.
(e) Don tuwon gobe ake wanke tukunya.
Observation
(a) This is an argumentative essay: Poverty or ignorance: Which is more harmful to life? Candidates were expected to write convincingly on which is more harmful to life between poverty and ignorance. Many candidates failed to take stand as their points were mixed up.
(b) This is an expository essay on how to improve the well being of the Nigerian youth. Many candidates who attempted the question failed to enumerate ways of improving the well being of the youth. This resulted in poor performance.
(c) This is a descriptive essay in which candidates were tasked to describe a visit they paid to a general hospital. The candidates’ performance was fairly good.
(d) Candidates were required to write a letter to a friend telling him the type of occupation that is common to their family. Candidates showed mastery of the informal letter writing technique.
(e) This is a proverbial essay. Candidates were expected to write a story that will interpret and illustrate the proverb. Most candidates failed to understand the meaning of the proverb and as a result could not come up with an essay to drive home the meaning of the proverb.
