Candidate's Weakness
The Chief Examiners observed weaknesses in candidates performance in the following areas:
- Difficulty in answering questions on sound system;
- Poor knowledge in Oral and Written Literature;
- Non mastery of orthography;
- Non adherence to rubrics;
- Poor handwriting
Suggested Remedies
- Seminars and Workshops should be organized by the respective State Ministries of Education for Hausa teachers in areas of phonetics and phonology to equip them in these aspects;
- Candidates should cultivate good reading habits.
- Candidates should be advised to improve their handwriting and write legibly.
- Candidates should be kept busy at all times through take-home assignments.
- Qualified teachers should be employed to teach Hausa and the existing ones be allowed to go for in-service training;
- Schools should make the selected texts available for the students in the school libraries.
