Outline any five problems faced by Nigerian farmers in the
1960s. |

This was another popular question and majority of the candidates who
attempted it did justice to it. This was probably because the same
problems still exist to date. Apart from a few candidates who gave
skimpy answers, many were able to outline the following problems:
(i) inadequate modern farming implements such as seeders, ploughs,
tractors etc and as a result, farmers depended largely on their traditional
hoes and ploughs;
(ii)farms were often destroyed by wild animals and pests like monkeys, bush
pigs, locusts, birds;
(iii)diseases of crops;
(iv)farmers invariably consumed their seeds before the planting season;
(v)Inadequate transportation facilities;
(vi)unpredictable climatic conditions.
