This was a popular question with fair attempts from most of the candidates who
attempted it. Those who scored low marks were the candidates who did not
expatiate their points. The good candidates were able to outline the following
points:
(i) it led to the decline of tradition religion;
(ii) the missionaries contributed immensely to the suppression of slave trade
and eradication of slavery;
(iii) introduction of Christianity as a new religion;
(iv) they led the way to the development of modern medical services in
Nigeria;
(v) they attacked and destroyed some bad social practices and customs e.g.
preached against inter-tribal and inter-village wars, killing of twins, etc:
(vi) they enhanced social communication among the communities;
(vii) they led the way to the development of modern medical services in
