Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies
Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in these areas:
- poor understanding of Igbo proverbs;
- inability to tackle the literature aspect;
- illegible handwriting;
- inability to write the required length in essay writing;
- inability to define terms correctly
SUGGESTED REMEDIES
- Government should consider making the three major ethnic languages compulsory in their different geographical zones.
- Teachers should ensure that candidates abide by the rules and guidelines for Igbo orthography.
- Teachers should encourage students to buy the recommended literature texts to enable them prepare well for the examination.
- The state libraries should be equipped with relevant Igbo grammar and literature books.
- Students should develop the attitude of reading novels to improve their vocabulary; students should always practise continuous writing in order to improve their writing skill and avoid spelling errors.
- Teachers should endeavour to cover the WAEC syllabus with their students.
